potting and repotting

Question
I actually have 2 questions. I have rooted some leaves and have the babies growing in a mixed vermalite medium. When and how should I seperate them and pot as normal?
I also have some older plants that have developed long and sometimes twisted necks. They are no long upright. How do I go about repotting them? Thank you for your help.

Answer
Sandy,
For the babies, you can successfully pot them up when they have several leaves, at least 3-4, no matter how small.  This means that the crown of the violet is starting to form.  Do not place them in a large pot, because violets need to have "crowded" roots.  Make sure you keep them moist and in excellent sunlight, preferably eastern exposure or morning light.  Also, for the babies, provided you have the time, you can greatly increase the humidity by placing a small plastic bag over each one for part of the day; try to make it after they are out of the direct sunlight or they could be scorched since they are young and very delicate.  However, watch for any signs of over-humidity such as mildew.  If you use the plastic bag method you won't have to water as much.

You second question is one I will have to do research on.  I have the same problem!  Most of my older violets have long, twisted necks, yet appear healthy.  I know there is a way to manage them, I just need to consult a few of my books.  Please give me until Tuesday if you will.  It will help us both!  Thanks very much.
