QuestionMy mother in law is having some issues with white spots on the leaves that she says is not mildew. She has been growing violets for many years. She has tried dabbing w/ alcohol but that hasn't helped. She lost 2 plants over the winter to this, and now 3 more have developed the spots. Do you have any ideas?
AnswerRick, I remember answering your question this past weekend. I am unsure why you didn't receive it. I apologize for whatever happened.
If you don't mind, I need more information on the APPEARANCE of these white spots. There are several types of spots which can occur on the leaves of AVs, and each has a different cause as well as cure. If your mother-in-law is experienced with growing them, as you say she is, ask her to describe the spots a little better. She says they are not mildew. Then she knows what mildew looks like. With the dabbing of alcohol it makes me think she is suspicious of aphids or white flies. I'm going to stop guessing here, and just ask you for a little more information, then I will help you all I can. Look to hear from you soon.
