Question
I usually get florescent tubes cool white 34 or 40 watts.  I noticed the store where I buy tubes has 60 watt tubes.  Do you think 60 watts might burn my AVs?  Should I place the light higher than 12 inches above plants because of the extra intensity?

Nancy, I have been unable to locate much info that would help you.  However, from what I have read it does appear that violets are not usually given more than 40 watts of fluorescent light.  If the store you frequent is out of your usual strength ask them to keep them in stock for you.  I am certain you will want to get other opinions in addition to mine.  Given my lack of experience with this type of lighting I really encourage you to do so.  Good luck.  Sorry I couldn't help more.

I haven't forgotten you.  I need to do a little research to answer your question properly.  I have never used fluorescent bulbs myself, so I need to get information from a more reliable source than myself this time!  I will be back in touch...
