repotting problem

Question
I used a specific african violet mix so it
s light but it was a bit damp.  Should I let him get quite dry before watering again?

Question -
I just repotted several african violets 2 nights ago.  One is angry about it!  It was in a TINY pot -- only 2 inches across -- and I put it in the smallest african violet pot I could find, about 4 inches.  I repotted by the instructions everyone gives out, but it's not doing well.  The bottom row of leaves have all started to droop and die.  What do I do to help him out?  Thanks!

Answer -
It sounds to me like the pot is too big and it is sitting in damp soil.  They do not like that much.  It could also be that your soil mix is too heavy.  The roots need to breath much like Orchids do.

The pot size should be 1/3 the size of the plant.  Lighten up your mix with some perlite.  You can get this at Walmart or any other place that sells potting supplies.

I hope this helps you.

Answer
Those African Violet mixes are great but they are still too heavy.  The plant is staying too wet for too long.  I would lighten it up with more perlite and repot it.  I am afraid you might loose your plants if you don't.  African violets do not like to get bone dry.  THis is bad for them as well.

If I can be of further help please let me know.
