QuestionPlease help me. I have 2 African Violets and when I got them, they were both full of blossoms. I have them in an East facing window with filtered light. I water them 1-2 times a week with plant food. They are growing and nice green in color. I am always getting new leaves, but neither one has blossomed in a year. What am I doing wrong?
AnswerThese plants will bloom about every 6 to 8 weeks. If it has not been that long don't worry you should have a few blooms soon.
You need a good balanced fertlizer with no UREA in it. Urea burns these little babies. Next they need at least 12 hours of light a day for optimum blooming. You could suppliment with a grow light on them if you are not wanting to do a formal set up. This should work great.
Make sure the soil is loose around their roots. They are much like Orchids in that their roots need lots of oxygen to be at their healtiest.
If I can help you any further please let me know.
Happy Growing
