QuestionHello there. I was given an african violet plant for a gift 2 years ago. When I got it, there were new leaves and flowers. Now that I have moved to California, I feed and water only from the top, It has been growing well until just 2-3 days ago when I noticed that the leaves are going limp and dying off. There is new growth but all the older and larger leaves are dying. Can you help me please.
AnswerOld leaves will do that eventually. I would water from the bottom. Fertlize with a urea free fertlizer at a 1/4 the rate on the instructions every watering. Or use fish or kelp extract. Make sure it is in a pot 1/3 the size of the plant. It needs 10 to 12 hours of bright indirect sun. Also in California is it dry where you are? It may need some added humidity. Set the pot on a bed of pebbles with water. Don't let the pot sit in water though. This will keep the micro climate humid. Never let it completely dry out. http://www.avsa.org/
If you need anything else just let me know.
Happy growing
