native plant ground cover

Question
I'm interested in learning about native plants for gardening. I live in Pittsburgh PA...

I have a sunny hill, and would like to plant a low profile ground cover, that is hardy, and low maintenance.I found the suggestion of wild strawberries on the Internet, which would be perfect for what I want to do...

How do I plant or start wild strawberries on the hillside? The berries are edible, aren't they?  Aren't they just much smaller and more tart than the usual garden variety? Where can I find the seeds or starts for native species?

Answer
You can find seeds at http://www.jlhudsonseeds.net/SeedlistF-G.htm  A Google search will reveal other sources as well.

The edible berries are much smaller and more flavorful than the garden variety.

I would not consider this a low-maintenance ground cover.  You will still have to battle weeds.  Full sun is not the ideal location, either, and the plants would require watering or they will produce little fruit and gradually fade out.

My recommendation is to do more research for alternatives.
