QuestionI live in zone 6 in southwestern pennsylvania.
I have the most lovely blue violets that came up volunteer in my yard, and I'm guessing they are a native species.
I'd love to move them from under my grill and other areas where they are in the way and getting mowed to a hillside where they can bloom and go crazy...I'd love to have them be the ground cover on the hill.
Do you have any suggestions when and how to transplant them? If they don't transplant well, what is the best way to seed / start/ propogate them to the new area?
Thank you!

AnswerYou could probably successfully move them right now. Just cultivate the soil to 8" deep and plant the violets a foot apart. Diluted soluble fertilizer could be applied when you water them in. They produce seed and will fill in with little help.
First thing in the spring when growth begins would work, too.
