QuestionHI Viktoria,
I am going to attempt to grow my first wildflower garden from seed. I had a huge plot that was infested with weeds last year, we cleaned it out and threw in some pestiside in the fall and over the weekend I tilled it and added some potting soil and added my seeds. The directions noted to keep the soil moist for the next 4-6 weeks. Does that mean I need to water them lightly 3 times a day or do I set a spinkler on them? Help!!! Also I laid down the seed in the front, back and side of my house working the soil as noted above. Thank you for your help
AnswerWhat kind of pesticide did you apply and why?
In the spring Mother Nature generally takes care of keeping the soil moist. Do NOT water lightly! It is better to mulch lightly with hay. If there is no rain for several days, dig a small hole to see if the soil is dry beyond the surface, and if it is, water enough that there is no dry soil at all. The equivalent of one inch of rain should do this, and a sprinkler generally yields this in one hour. Set out a dish or two to measure, and when there is an inch of water in them, you are done.
