I've heard that Red geraniums on the windowsill keeps spiders away from putting webs in the frame ?

Any truth to this, or is it an old Wives tale?

I heard this while living a Germany a few years back.

Never heard this one.  My off-the-cuff reaction is that it does not make any sense.  Another thought: a windowsill with any flowers on it would have frequent attention (watering, turning plants etc.), which would discourage spiders from taking up residence.  Don't they also tend to be found in dark corners rather than sunny windows?
