Questioni have a small pond about 150 gal. i have had the same two goldfish that i started with. they were small .39 cent fish that have grown to 9 inches long.the past 2 summers i thought one of them is pregnant. she is so fat and its the same one as last year. we also had a bullfrog that welcomed himself. we never had any eggs or fish that we ever found and was told that maybe the frog was eating them. we took the frog to a big pond and set him free. the fish has been real big for at least a month and nothing is going on. how long does it take for the fish to lay eggs and do fish have false pregnancies? i really would like to see baby fish.any answers?
AnswerDear Nancy,
Thank you for your question.
It is possible the fish has eggs, however before you have small fish they need to be fertilized and do not know is there are male fish in the pond.
If the thickness stays it can be eggs hardened inside or even blather issues or a cancer or so.
So best way is to monitor the fish regularly.
When swimming strange or if scales are looking strange or any change you best check with a veterinarian or fishstore to be sure there is nothing going on.
Good luck!
Kind regards,
Raf
