QuestionI recently was spreading Ronstar, some got on my water lilies and now they are all rotting on the top of the surface and seems as if they are going to die soon. Can I save them and how? I have a feeling like I will have to have the small pond pumped and cleaned then may have to get new lilies, but would like to save the old ones if possible? Let me know what other information I can get to you and I will please? Thanks and God Bless, Dustin
AnswerRonstar (herbicide) would most likely do severe damage to a lily. The good news is that it shouldn't completely kill the plant.
It would kill the leaves and flowers that it made contact with, but leave the roots in tack. All you need to do is remove the "inefficient" parts of the plants and they should pick back up where they were. You just don't want them to keep the brown leaves, or the plants will continue to reroute resources to the damaged part, eventually killing the plant. If the damage looks very severe, you can try removing the plant, pruning its stalks, and putting it in a bucket of wet soil wrapped in a black trash bag. Keep it in your garage or another cool, dark place. Bring it back to the pond next spring/summer and give it a healthy dose of fertilizer.
