Solar fountain clean pond?

Question

Pond
We have inherited a pond on the property we purchased last year. It is an earthen pond made by previous owner. Instead of being ground level, he just built up a bank around it (picture is not representative of that). It measures roughly 73' x 100', depth depends on rain of course but probably at least 4' now.
Notice alot of algae increasing each day. (there are fish in there as we hear them jumping, or frogs at least).
We have no source of electricity near by. Considering getting a solar fountain, thinking that will help keep the water cleaner. We don't have alot of money to spend on this. Is that our best use of money to improve the look of the pond/get rid of some of the algae? If so, is there any brand/supplier that is recommended? I realize the pump won't work on a cloudy day but we figured it is better than nothing. I've read we should also put some plants in there. I should mention it is mostly in the sun Thanks.

Answer
Hey Jennifer,I don't know much about solar fountains. I think it would diffidently help. Algae doesn't like moving water. You diffidently need some plants, but be careful some like lettuce will take over the pond. Keep in mind some people dye there water to keep algae down. If you get a lot of runoff you will have to dig the bottom of the pond out about every 10 years. Thanks Eric
