Question
Hi, I have recently bought a golden orfe at a pond fish store.  He is maybe 4 inces long.  We are feeding him Koi Vibrance and sometimes Koi Choice pellets.  I have noticed that he swallows stuff, and then spits it back out a second later.  Do I need smaller food or a different type of food?  He sometimes swallows stuff, but he spits out 70% of what he swallows.  We have him in a 2300 gallon pond with some other koi and goldfish.  Does he need different food or is he still getting used to the food?

Hi Brian:  Koi and goldfish are scavengers and as such they put everything in their mouth and then decide if they want to eat it... if they spit it out they have decided it is not food.  Sometimes like a child who wants just candy you have to let them get a bit hungry so that they will eat the things that are good for them... ( please don't starve children)...  hope this helps... dave
