QuestionHI David,
I am hoping you have information on how I can help my pond frogs survive the winter. I lose them every year. This year I have so many more frogs and just as many tadpoles. Our pond has a bottom liner so there is no dirt. And, the frogs always try to stay in the skimmer box. I try to catch them and release them to a nearby creek to save them. Please, any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kim
AnswerHi Kim: If you provide them a place like your skimmer box with submersible heater you they will probably be just fine. How cold is winter where you are? They are looking for shelter and warmth. Most frogs hibernate during the winter and then emerge again in the spring with things begin to warm up. If you are successful with your warm box you may also want to feed them a bit. Do not feed them too much though. The box does not have to be hot it just has to be warmer then the water/environment around your pond. Keep me posted... dave
