QuestionDear Robyn,
I just brought home 2 small calico goldfish to their own 10 gallon paradise (lol) Their is good filtration and aeration and the tank has been existing for many yrs but before bring them home I vacuumed the gravel removing 4.5 gallons of water and replacing it of course using my water condition for tap water. I understand the water temp is to be kept between 65
AnswerI love calico goldfish! Are they calico fantails or shubunkins (single tailed calicos)? Goldfish like temperatures in the 60's and 70's. For fantails, 75 degrees F is ideal. For single-tailed goldfish, 70 degrees F is ideal. Goldfish can survive from 33 to 90 degrees F or so but are very stressed above 80 degrees F (mostly due to low oxygen).
I suggest doing weekly 50% water changes with gravel vacuuming and adding the dechlorinator (tap water conditioner) and some aquarium salt (a tablespoon per 5 gallons of changed water).
My page on goldfish is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/gfish.htm
Good luck!
