QuestionRecently my neighbor lost most of her Koi fish due to the fact that the water circulating pump had been turned off for quite some time. Maintenance workers had overloaded the 120vac outlet and the breaker opened taking the power off.
I want to create a simple circuit by attaching a 120vac relay to the breaker output voltage. Then if the breaker opens and looses power, it will turn on another circuit that causes an alarm siren to sound when it fails.
Do you know of any other way to prevent the loss of the Koi fish if the circulating motor goes off??
AnswerI don't know too much about electricity. Is there a reason you or the neighbor can't check on the pond at least twice a day. If the fish will die faster than that, then the pond is really overcrowded.
You can install and automatic generator to supply power when the power goes off but that costs a lot of money. If the breakers are blowing out, you need one that can handle more electricity. There are battery-driven air pumps but they don't put out much power/air. I have ones on my aquariums that automatically come on when the power goes out. My section on what to do in power outages with ponds is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/pcare.htm#power
I wish I could be of more help!
