QuestionI love the modern and serene look of reflection pools along with the added interest of the reflection that they offer. My question is in regards to the dangers of still or standing water specifically being a breeding ground for mosquitos. Are these pools really as still as they appear or is there some type of movement? I have heard of mosquito rings, are these used and if so are they visible?
Thanks,
Emily
AnswerHi Emily,
Most of the pools that I design have a filtering system.
People can run them at night, or whenever no one is around.
Not only they prevent mosquito larvae from growing, but also get rid of fallen debris.
Mosquito rings could be placed in ways that are not really visible, but as with any other insecticide, care should be taken as not to release it into the environment.
They are usually made with a strain of the bacillus thuringiensis, a life form that is non harmful to humans, but, if released, could disrupt the balance of the immediate environment.
Good Luck!
