QuestionI have a 120 gallon pond. It will soon have a waterfall in it. I was wondering what type&how many fish I could have in it. Currently it has lots of water hyacinth and water lettuce. I live in zone 7.
AnswerI suggest smaller hardy fish like rosy red minnows or mosquito fish. Start with just a dozen. They will breed out on their own. If you prefer goldfish, then try maybe 4 to 6 of them at most. If they spawn, there won't be room for more of them in the future at least not at their mature over foot long length. Koi need ponds over 1000 gallons. You could also make a native fish pond with dace, shiners, minnows, etc. or a tropical fish pond (for summer only, bringing the fish in for the winter) with fish like white cloud mountain minnows, zebra danios, guppies, platies, paradise, fish, etc. My site has information on most of those fish.
I also am in Zone 7 and have thousands of water lettuce! I've started tossing it. Good luck!
