QuestionWe bought a couple of water lilies at Lowe's this year. But their pads are only 2-3 inches in diameter. Is something wrong? It was not sold as a dwarf lily. What is going on?
AnswerDo you know what variety it is? Some lily varieties have smaller pads. Also, a lily can be stunted. For example, when I pot my hardy lilies in 5 gallon pots in my 1800 gallon pond, they put out pads a little larger than those in 1 gallon pots in my 153 gallon pond. How big is the pot you have the lilies in? How did you pot them? Earlier leaves on a lily (or ones following dormancy or damage) are smaller. There's also the possibility that the lily is not the variety that the package said it was. It might be a dwarf. Good luck!
