Raiding my pond

Question
I live in the city - during the night something ate all my fish (pieces were laying around)and knock over all my plants - I have only seen a ground hog and rabbits and I'm certain they didn't do it. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Susan,
Thanx for your question.  Dogs and cats will raid ponds.  I have seen them do it.  I live in the city also, right near downtown and I have seen raccoons and possum too and they will eat fish.  I think the raccoons will actually get into the water like dogs will.  I've seen the cats sit on the bank of my pond and watch the fish and then go out and find the pond empty of fish!  Groundhogs and rabbits are not the problem.  It's probably raccoons or dogs.  I don't think cats would necessaryily knock over too much unless they were starteled.  Raccoons are very messy and awkward and tear up a lot of stuff when they have found a food supply.  I hope this helps.
Tom
