QuestionWE BUILT A 3000 GALLON POND AND WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS KEEPING IT CLEAR. WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH STRING ALGIE SO WE USED A PRODUCT CALLED ALGAEFIX FOOLOWD BY CLAIFIER (ECOFIX). THIS SEEMED TO WORK FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS THEN ONE DAY IT TURNED MUCKY, NO STRING ALGAE BUT STILL ROCK ALGAIE. WE USED A CLARIFIER AGAIN, BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK LIKE IT SHOULD. DO YOU HAVE AN ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEM. WE HAVE A BOG FILTRATION SYSTEM WOTH A 970 GALLON PUMP. WE HAVE A NICE SIZE WATERFALL. WE HAVE 9 FISH THAT SEEM TO DING OKAY, BUT THE WATER ISN'T CLEAR TO SEE OUR FISH. WE NEED HELP!
AnswerCathy, I feel your pain! You will always have some algae build up on the rocks. If the treatments you are using are not helping, the 1 of 2 things is/are happening: 1)There is a normal amount for a pond, or, 2)Your bog area is overloaded with organic debris and that's feeding the algae. Try using a different brand of clarifier and see what happens. Pond Market has a tablet form that's very concentrated.
As for the murky water, make sure the pH in the pond is balanced and one-half to two-thirds the surface is covered with plant life. If these conditions are met and you are still having problems, look into a UV filter. They work wonders and take a lot of the work out of a pond.
Hope this helps Cathy,
Brigitte
