I HAVE JUST INSTALLED A SMALLER FISH POND AND WAS WONDERING WHAT TYPE OF FISH ARE EASIEST TO TAKE CARE OF KOI OR GOLDFISH

By all means CJ, go for the goldfish. Goldfish are less susceptible to disease, do better in the cold, handle oxygen depravation easier, and require less filtration and feed. There are several types of goldfish that are hardy for garden ponds: comets, shubunkins, fan tails, calico fantails, and rosey reds.
