QuestionHello, I have a 50-gallon pond with a PondMaster 190 filter. I have two goldfish, approx. 8" each, and one random 5" shark-looking fish (came with the pond when we moved in). The pond gets a lot of sun, but I do have some floating plants and rocks set up to create shade. The water has been a thick, hazy green since about 3 days after we got the filter. Do I have too large of fish, or is there something else I could do? I can't even see the fish at this point. Thank you!
AnswerHi Beth,
Thanx for your question. I don't think it's the fish that is causing the problem. Are you feeding the fish too much and the excess food is causing an algal bloom? Floating plants help clean the water but you might want to pick up a barley bale at your local nursery (they should be about the size of a large brick and cut it in half and keep it in a netted bag. Sink it and it should clean up your water. Ihope this helps.
