QuestionI recently discovered tiny green worms or parasites on my plants in the pond. I noticed them because my lily pads were dying and so where my other water plants once i took a closer look i saw them on the leaves, however my fish are fine but i need these h2o plants for my fish. What are they and what so i do?
AnswerTina,
Sounds like china mark moths. Also known as sandwich worms. Check the stems of the waterlilies below the water line. You'll find two small bits of leaf, about the size of a dime, "sandwiched" together with a worm inside.
At any rate, any worm can be controlled with Dipel dust. Available from any home center. It is not an insecticide, but a powder of Bacillus thurigensis. It gives the worms a fatal stomach ache. It affects only worms and is completely safe for all your critters. Just dust it on the leaves.
By the way, do you have a Tina waterlily?? A beautiful, dark purple/blue tropical lily.
Good Luck
