ph in the big(8000 gallons) pond

Question
How can i change ph6 to atlist ph6.5-7???? the fastest way? i always check water and always use to be ph7 but in this hot couple days water looks little green and ph is 6! i don't have any algae problem because i made shade over the pond and i have very good Nitra max filter with UV light.thanx.....

Answer
Hi there!

Typical ponds have a pH range of 6 to 11.
Any variations within that range would be considered normal.
A rapid change in pH level could be dangerous and cause the whole system of a man made pond to crash.

If the water looks a little green, it is certainly caused by alga. Even with the filter and the UV light, there are still enough nutrients for it to grow. As they grow and decay, more rapidly on warmer and sunnier days, they release higher amounts of hydrogen, thus turning the water more acidic.

Having water plants growing without any soil will greatly improve water clarity in a man made pond.
You can use cattails, irises, water lilies, water lettuce, eichornia and even watercress!

Good luck and keep in touch!
