Questioni have had a goldfish pond now for 6 years and have had very little problems but the last few days after a filter cleaning, the top of the water was 80% covered with bubbles/foam/suds(which slowly go away but are replaced by new foam from the the founatin head). I have a fountain head that shoots water 6-10" for oxygen and has worked great...but with the foam/sud/bubbles on top of the water the fish have been staying at the bottom of the pond and not moving at all! I did a 90% water change and added dechlor and stresscoat (the pond is approx 500 gal.) I also noticed a few of the fish with the signs of ICK(sp) so I treated them for that as well. After a few days the fish seem to be more active and eating better but a few are still staying at the bottom and I have to move them in order to get them to move and eat a little. The foam is still on top of the water and the alge that has formed on the sides of the pond (liner) is bright green like it usually is however, I noticed today that the top 6-8" from the water line down that the alge has turned white??? I have'nt checked my chemicals since I have never had to the last 3-4 years. HELP! JIM
AnswerI am not sure exactly what has happened but doesnt soung good. The only thing that might help is apond starter chemical, then treat with an algacide a few days later. Sounds like maybe some kind of fungus. Othe thing you did't
overdose the pond with plant food and have an over abundance of phosphate from the plant food?
