pond filter stopping up over night even though water is crystal clear???

Question
------------------------The filter will of course have some debris in it when i take it out, but my experience with aquariums for years has shown me that it isn't nearly enough to be stopping it up...The pump is not actually stopping just cutting way back and when it does that the prefilter hose does seem to kind of collaspe a little. My question is what does vacuum lock mean and how do i fix it:):)I don't see any debris in the intake especially since the prefilter stops it first....
Thanks so much for your help you can't imagine how much i appreciate it!

Question -
I will try to keep it short, i have had my pond for about three years now. I recently bought a new pump and was told to add a prefilter. I have an animate or petmate UV light to kill the algae. I now have a pondmaster pump and pondmaster prefilter. I was having to unstop the filter EVERYDAY. So i decided to completely drain my pond freeing it of ALL algae and essentially start over. Well the pump is still stopping in about 12 hours due to the filter seeming stopped up....I have called the company and went through the ropes with them and they don't even understand. I am at my wits end, i love my pond but this is too much.... FYI,....the pump is more than big enough and the Uv light is double what is needed as i just made the company replace it thinking something was wrong with it.....???PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY CLUE....
Thanks for this service

I need to know some things is the filter actually clogged or does it just stop pumping? If it is not clogging I think somehow you are getting a vacuum lock. How about the prefilter hose collapsing I think it is probably a simple fix. One more thing to check is there any debris getting into the pump intake?

Answer
Without seeing it is very difficult to be sure but somehow I think there is something wrong with the filter setup, I think after it is in use a few hours somehow the something shifts in the filter blocking the hose off stopping it up. check very carefully the installation procedure. If all else fails take the pump and prefilter put it in the bathtub or a barrell of clean water see if it clogs. I am sure the problem is simple finding it isn't.

Sorry I can't be of more help I will try to find the filter on a website and see if there may be something I can find out
