The reference below shows that figs are grown extensively in the Fresno, Madera, Imperial and Riverside counties, which as you know are well into the interior of the state. Although, the climate in Oxnard would be beneficial for growing figs and I don't think sandy soil would be an issue, the salty air might. I would consult with the UC-Davis Extension for Ventura County. Someone there will be able to give you exact information for your area for growing figs.
