Mango seed

Question
Hi.
I live in zone 7a or 8a (every zone map I've looked at has my zip code 35905 in a different zone)

Anyway, I've been trying for about 3 years to grow a mango from seed. I have failed over, and over, and over, and over.

I've read many tutorials and watched videos. Soaking it in water, suspending in water, covering with plastic bag, putting it under heat lights, leaving it outside all 365 days of the year.

What happens every single time is the seed will grow fungus/mold and rot, or it will sprout a root/leaf that wilts and dies within days.

Helppp~~~! I refuse to be defeated!

Answer
Hi Desirai,
Thanx for your question.  Before you plant the seed, go to a nursery and purchase some milled sphagnum moss.  I have found that a generous layer of this on top of soil, will greatly reduce or even eliminate the occurrence of damping off disease which is the mold you are experiencing.  Additionally, aim a fan on low speed at the the pot.  This will keep good air circulation and further reduce the chance of fungal infection.  Are you covering the pot?  If you are, I would stop.  Trapped, still, humid, warm air, greatly increases the chance of fungal infection.  I hope this helps.
Tom
