QuestionQUESTION: last year i got a pine seedling that was in a flower pot in East Tx. at the time it was about 1" it is now about 12" when can i put it in the ground in N.Tx
ANSWER: Hi Joy,
Thanx for your question. To be on the safe side, I would wait until after the last frost. Dig a hole slightly deeper and wider than the pot and then carefully remove the potted seedling and place it in the hole filling it up with soil. Side-dress it with some well-composted manure and water well. Water once a week if no regular rain for the first year. I hope this helps.

QUESTION: sorry forgot to ask do i need to feed the tree, and also have a lot of clay.should i use some good potting soil, with my soil never tried to grow a pine befor thanks so very much.
AnswerHi Joy,
Thanx for your question. I wouldn't worry so much about potting soil as I would making sure the sapling is fed properly. After you transplant it to the desired location, sidedress it with some well-composted potting soil. Then, go to your local nursery and look for some fertilizer stakes rated for conifers or regular trees if conifers isn't available. Follow the directions on the package. Usually, you just stick one of the stakes in the ground at a prescribed distance from the sapling and replace as they are absorbed. I hope this helps.
