There are two ways you can grow an avocado from seed. First, plant the pit on its side about 3 inches deep in a large pot of regular potting soil. Keep the soil moist but free draining and very warm, about 80癋/27癈. Germination occurs in 30 days to several months. You can also suspend the seed in a glass of water with tooth picks placed around the crown of the flat end of the seed. Three or four toothpicks will suspend the pit, point down, in a glass of clean water. Replace the water every couple of days or when it begins to foul. The root should appear in 30-90 days. Warmth is the key to germination. I hope this helps.
