QuestionHi there! Not sure what section to ask this in.
My daddy is a gardener/lover of flowers/plants etc.
Recently he gave me 5 olive seeds. Not sure why he had only 5 or where he got them.
They're dried and wrinkly and remind me of pits from a peach except a lot smaller.. haha.
Is it possible to grow them? I'd like to. I'd never seen a real live olive tree until recently actually: I moved into a house that had one growing in front of the door. I lived there for a year and never saw any fruit come off of it though.
So if I have 5 olive seeds, what do I do to grow them?
I've googled it but I really haven't come up with any site or tutorial or anything that explains it very well.
Help :)?
AnswerHi Desirai,
Thanx for your question. It is not recommended to grow olives from seeds as most of them are from a hybrid tree and the seedlings will revert back back to a small-seeded wild variety. Additionally, it will take many years to get a fruit from a seed. However, if you would still like to grow olive from seed remove the seed from unbrined flesh. Use only fresh seed. Lightly cover the seed and maintain a soil temperature of 65癋/18癈-70癋/24癈). It generally takes between 30 and 120 days for germination. I hope this helps.
