QuestionMy rose of Sharon plants have produced seed pods. My question is, do i pick off the pods & wait for them to dry to get the seeds or do i leave them on the bush?
AnswerHi David,
Thanx for your question. Allow the seed pods to dry on the shrub and when they just start to split open at the ends, the seeds should be ripe. The Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus is a member of the Hibiscus family. The seeds germinate quickly at 75癋/24癈. Start them in the spring about 6 weeks before the last frost. Keep uniformly moist but not soggy and under 40-watt shop lights until they can be safely set outside after last frost (place in shade for ten days prior to permanent planting). They need 8 hours full sun for best blooming. I hope this helps.
