QuestionTom,
Thanks for taking time to answer my question. I may have asked this before, but i can't find your answer now.
How do I plant American Sycamore seeds directly into the ground? I don't want to grow them in a pot first but just put the seeds right into the ground. Do I need to cold stratify them first or can I just plant them in October before it gets cold? Since I am in South Central Kansas, would the seeds sprout before the last frost thus killing the seedlings?
If you could give me a step-by-step process from starting with the fruit ball until the seedling trees poke through the ground, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Tim
AnswerHi Tim,
Thanx for your question. Sycamores here in Kansas do not require a cold stratification period. Don't sow in the Autumn; sow in the Spring. Here is a link that describes in detail how to grow sycamore from seed. It is from the U.S. Forestry Service which I should like to think is the expert on this subject. I hope it helps.
