QuestionHi, Tom.
Thanks for answering my question. I read your answer to another question about growing red maples from seeds at this link: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Trees-739/2008/5/red-maple-1.htm That was a good, detailed answer.
Anyway, I am in South Central Kansas (growing zone 6) and I was wondering how I would grow a sugar maple tree from seed here in S.C. KS? And could I apply those same techniques to growing a red maple in this part of the State?
Thanks,
Tim
AnswerHi Tim,
Thanx for your question. Absolutely, you can and should use the same methods I wrote about in some of my previous answers. Sugar maples will grow in Kansas. While the tree is young, you should make sure you give it a good soaking once a week as you know how hot and dry our summers can be and you don't want to stress the tree out. Also, I would get some fertilizer spikes for trees from your local nursery or DIY after you have transplanted the sapling outdoors to its permanent growing spot. I hope this helps.
Tom
