QuestionHi Tom, my wife and I have 25 large Copper canyon daisy plants around our home, and to be frank, I am getting tired on pruning them every six months.
Could you help us be answering:
What happens to Copper canyon daisies if you don't prune them - or only prune them every January after a hard freeze?
Tom, thanks in advance for any advice you might shed on this question.

AnswerHi Gary,
Thanx for your question. Copper canyon daisies (Tagetes lemmonii) is one of those perfect Texas plants if you're trying to maintain native or semi-native plants. The plant can easily reach 6 feet high and 4 feet wide. As far as pruning goes, many recommend only pruning after a hard frost or after the plant starts going dormant in the winter. I don't see that you would or should prune it very often unless that is your preference. Pruning always makes for a neater, more compact plant but pruning once a year would probably suffice if you don't mind allowing this plant to grow higher and fuller. I suppose some folks would find this type of growth, "messy". It probably wouldn't look neat around a small property on a small piece of land. It's really a matter of aesthetic preference. Gary, I really think once a year would be good. See how you like it and then go from there. I hope this helps.
