QuestionHi, I came to this site hoping to get info as to why my very tall over 4 feet yucca plant which has a lot of spikey leaves has not bloomed. If I remember correctly it did bloom when I first got it but has not for several years now. I live in south west Pa and the plant is on a sloping hillside and in the full sun. I was ready to dig it out but thought I would try to find out why no blooms before I do the drastic. Thanks. Joan
AnswerThere are close to 50 species of yucca plants. Some will bloom once per year, while others will only bloom every 3-5 years. Based on your description, your particular plant is probably one of the species that bloom every few years.
To encourage blooming, fertilize the plant with a water-soluble fertilizer high in phosphorus and low in nitrogen. You should begin fertilizing in late spring and continue through early August once every 14 days.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Mike
