QuestionSay Thom, I'm a small tree farmer in western Loxahatchee, Fl. and I'm wanting to collect some Bismarck seeds and start a few trays of seedlings. Would you start them in moist Spangum moss in zip-lock bags, like I did my Royals? Thanks Bob P.
AnswerHi Bob,
Thanx for your question. The method you describe is one of the methods suggested by palm growers but the other one is just to plant the seeds in individual pots. The roots are said to be pretty brittle and will grow wildly the first few months after germination. A big pot in an area that gets lots of full sun and heat. I've started palm seeds many a time Bob, but, am in no way and expert palm grower. I lived in NW Florida back in the 80s but we just had cool weather palms and palmettos up there. My brother lives near Daytona and I'm down there every year and like to go to the nurseries and check out the plants, etc. I've also grown bananas from seed too. Anyway, I think you're on the right track. Let me know if you need more information.
Tom
