Questionokay, this is going to sound weird...but...we've been watching our cottonwood tree disperse seeds this year for the last two days. at between 4-5PM...the seeds that resemble a snowy blizzard all day...completely stop falling or flying. it's not because the wind dies down...the wind is still blustery and gusting. is there a chemical exerted in the tree that allows for the release of seed dispersal with the rise in temperature? sunrise? time of day? come on...a tree? i'm perplexed...we made it a point to observe it today and damned if it didn't happen at the same time as last night.
got an explanation?
AnswerHi Sarah,
Thanx for your question. Your question is a tree question, best answered by a tree expert and we have a tree expert here on Allexperts. If you will go back to Home/Gardening and click on Trees and then Click on Trees again, you will find our expert, Jim Hyland who is a Forestry Service professional. I'm sure he can answer your question more expertly than I.
I hope this helps.
