QuestionHello. I purchased some japanese weeping cherry seeds, soaked them overnight and planted them in the ground in late fall. I don't know if this was a mistake or not. I wish that I'd found this site earlier. It is now mid April and I am waiting for them to make an appearance and am wondering if I should water regularly. Should I mulch now before they appear or wait til they poke through(if they poke through). I buried them about 3 inches down and am wondering if this was too deep.
AnswerHi Fawn,
Thanx for your question. The seedlings will emerge in April or May depending upon when your soil warms up. Here in the lower plains, our soils are warming up and seedlings are starting to emerge. I would water them about once a week if you're not having a regular rainfall. Three inches is a bit deep but I think they're okay. Tree seedlings are always slow to emerge when they are planted naturally. I hope this helps.
