Questioncan cane cuttings be first rooted in water, or must it be in rooting substance? and if im going to root cuttings this season, how should i care for them till spring?
AnswerHi Mohammad,
Thanx for your question. If you're talking about sugar cane, I'm not an agricultural expert. I do know that sugar cane can be propagated by laying the cuttings in soil and keeping them well watered and warm. The new plants will come from the joints of the cane.
Here are some links with better information than I can provide on sugar cane propagation. I used to live in Hawaii where there are a lot of sugar cane fields. Louisiana and Florida are also big sugar cane producers in the U.S.

I hope this helps.
