QuestionMy Mother in Law.used to transplant a Snowball Bush by just cutting a Limb and planting it...i want to know if that really works?????Thank you Gerlinde
AnswerHi Gerlinde,
Thanx for your question.
In order to root the snowball bush cuttings I would take green stem cuttings in the mid-summer about 8 inches long, strip off all of the leaves except the last two. Dip the cut end in a rooting hormone such as Rootone, available at many nurseries, stick the cutting in a pot of soil less mix and seal the pot inside a plastic baggie. Keep it warm but not hot. I believe rooting will occur in about 2 months. I hope this helps. You can take a long branch of your Snowball bush and bring it down to the ground. Dig a 2 inch hole about the size of a cup and bring the long branch of the the bush down to the hole and place the branch over the hole and cover the hole with soil and place a 2 or 3 pound rock on top of the covered soil. Water it once a week and in a few weeks this will result in a rooted section of the branch. Dig it all up gently and you will see the root mass around the section that was buried underneath the rock. Cut the rooted section off from the branch and plant in the garden as you like. You can also take the green cuttings and dip them in rooting hormone and make a nursery bed in a partially shaded section of your garden. Keep it free of weeds and keep the soil moist but not soggy. The plant should begin rooting in a few weeks.
I hope this helps.
Tom
