QuestionI just got some kumqaut seeds in the mail. Should i soak them in water before i plant them?
AnswerHi Cole,
Thanx for your question. No, you do not need to soak kumquat seeds before planting them. Press them into the soil about 1/2 inch deep. Keep moist but not soggy. They should germinate in a couple of weeks. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, gently prick them out and pot up in separate pots. They do not tolerate frost so keep them as a potted plant if you are not in a frost-free zone. It will take about 5 years to get fruit from seed and because most kumquats tend to come from hybrid plants the seeds will not result in plants that directly resemble the parent plants. I hope this helps.
