Cat Palm seeds

Question
Hi, Tom.  I recently planted a Cat palm and have removed several stems full of seeds.  I'd like to try to grow them, but I can't find any information about growing Cat palms from seed.  Right now the seeds are still in bunches on the stems and they are green.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Stephanie,

Thanx for your question.  The seeds should not be removed from the plant before they turn color to brown.  Yours are probably not completely ripe which means the embryos are not complete.  Cat Palm,
Chamaedorea cataractarum seeds germinates at well, in 1-3 months at 82F-90F in a few months.  After germination, reduce the heat on the seeds to 80F so the roots develop.  You can grow the seed in seed flats and cover them with 1/4 inch of soil.  Make sure the soil is not soggy and drains well.  Separate the seedlings to separate pots when they have 1-4 leaves.  I hope this helps.
Tom
