QuestionI harvested some yarrow seeds last year, but was unable to get any of the seeds
to germinate this year. I have had excellent results when I planted seeds
purchased from the store or online, but no luck with seeds I harvested. This
year I will have lots of yarrow and really want to use the seeds, especially from a
light pink variety I found. Can you help me?
AnswerHi Michelle,
Thanx for your question. I have grown yarrow from seed. The thing with it, is to sprinkle the tiny seeds on top of the soil and gently press them in. Keep the growing environment at 70-75F. Germination occurs in 2-3 weeks. Don't cover them. When harvesting the seed. Wait for the flower to completely dry and then shake the flower over a paper plate. The seed will fall out onto the plate. Store the seed in a plastic bag or in a glass jar. Store the seeds in a cool, dark, dry environment until ready to plant next year. Sometimes a plant will produce sterile seed, particularly if your variety is a hybrid.
I hope this helps.
