Questioni have two rose of Sharon and we have done some land scaping work and one of them are now to close to the side walk and i would like to move it but don't know when is the best time to move it
AnswerHi Cindy,
Thanx for your question. The best time to move a shrub is in the late summer or early fall. You can prune it back severely to help make it easier to handle. Make sure you get a good sized root ball. Make the new hole a lot bigger than from where the plant came. Amend the bottom of the hole with well composted cow manure. Make sure the plant sits slightly lower in the hole than it's original position. Cover well with soil and then soak it with water. I'd water it a couple times a week for a couple of weeks and then mulch it with leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, to help protect it through the winter.
I hope this helps.
Tom
