QuestionPlease give me information on how to propagate English ivy? I have tried to start the ivy from cuttings in the past, and I was not successful. Pleas specify the season I can tempt to start it.
AnswerHi Angie,
Thanx for your question. English ivy is best started in Spring and Summer. You can take a six inch cutting just below a leaf node and trim off all but the last two or three leaves. Dip the cutting in a rooting hormone available at most nurseries and stick in a pot of soil. Keep moist but not soggy. Rooting should occur in a few weeks. You can also root in a a glass of water. Change the water as it becomes cloudy. Again, trim off the leaves up to the last two or three on a cutting 6 inches long. Don't put the cutting in a sunny window. It will root better in a shaded though not completely dark area. I hope this helps.
