QuestionHi - I germinated some impatients (seed packet bought from Walmart). They grew just beautifully - very green strong - they are huge now - but no blooms? What have I done wrong? Thanks for any help.
AnswerHi Lynn,
thanx for your question. Have you been fertilizing your impatiens? If so, make sure you're not giving them too much nitrogen. Nitrogen causes a lot of green growth at the expense of blooms. I would look for a garden fertilizer with the N-P-K rating of 5-10-5. The middle number or the Potassium number should be higher than the other two (N=Nitrogen and K=Potassium) because this is the element required for good flowering. Your local Walmart, DIY or hardware store will carry fertilizers with this rating. Brands would be Ortho and Scott's amongst many others. Apply the fertilizer according to instructions on the package. I like plain old composted cow manure. Well composted manure doesn't smell and has all the nutrients a plant needs. I hope this helps.
