QuestionMy grandfather grew them, my mother inherited them and now I've taken on the hobby of tending Grand Duke Jasmines. I have plants that were clippings of my mother's plants and they are well established, perhaps 3 years old. Lately, on one plant, I've noticed unusual new growth. The new stems seem thicker, with leaf clusters more dense, closer together, sometimes curling and forming what look like leaf bunches. I never noticed this pattern on any of my mother's much older plants and wondered if it is a natural variation or might be the result of some problem or even a hybridization? I also have Mogra Jasmine and Mysore Muli in the same area on my patio. Plants are all in containers. Thank you.
AnswerHi Michael,
Thanx for your question The condition you describe is probably just a natural variation however, keep an eye on it and see what it does. Have you been using a high nitrogen fertilizer on the plant? This can cause overabundance of green growth. Use a fertilizer that is either balanced 12-12-12 or something with more phosphorus and potassium in it, a fertilizer rated for flowering shrubs. I hope this helps.
